Breaking the Circle: Neuruppin

berlin, brandenburg, breaking the circle, city, neuruppin, ruppin, town

Neuruppin is a town in Brandenburg located on the shore of Ruppiner lake with the reputation of being the most Prussian of all Prussian towns, due to its former status as a Prussian garrison town. The novelist Theodor Fontane and the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel were born here. Frederick the Great lived in Neuruppin in his years as crown prince of Prussia.

1934, the military airfield Neuruppin was revived as a pilot school Neuruppin, while the state mental hospital Neuruppin served as interim institution for the killing centers in Brandenburg and Bernburg for the Aktion T4.

The Group of Soviet Forces in Germany used the core city located just north of the airbase, the operation led to significant noise pollution in the city. 1989 resulted in massive demonstrations in connection with plans for further use of military training and air-to-ground firing range, which brought to the closure of the airfield.

Very nice is the lake shore and the Tempelgarten Villa built with arabic decorations and statues.
