Haus des Rundfunks - House of Broadcasting (Charlottenburg)

The House of Broadcasting is the oldest self-contained broadcasting house in the world. It was designed by Hans Poelzig in 1929 after winning an architectural competition. The building vis-à-vis the Funkturm contains three large broadcasting rooms located in the centre, shielded from street noise by the surrounding office wings. It is now used by the local ARD broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) and produces radio programs for the channels radioBerlin, Kulturradio, and Inforadio. The building's broadcasting rooms are occasionally also used to host concerts.

The building, was constructed from 1929-1930 and inaugurated on 22 January 1931 as the seat of the Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft. After World War II, it became something of a Cold War issue: Though it was situated in the British Sector of West Berlin, it was used by the Berliner Rundfunk radio station, controlled by the Soviet occupation forces, until it moved to East Berlin in 1952 (first in Funkhaus Grünau and then in Funkhaus Nalepastraße - have a look at the full reportages).

Funkhaus Grünau

From 1947 to 1956, the former boat house was used by the GDR as a radio station. It was the seat of the former television entertainment in the GDR.
The building was designed by architect Otto Zbrzezny from 1929-1930.
In March 2008 has been purchased by an hamburger asset management company.
Since April 2012 the former broadcasting house is an open area for arts, culture, experimental technique, low-tech, sports and leisure activities.

Schrottregatta @ Funkhaus Grünau

After one week of planning and building their boats, 8 teams fight against the others at the race of self made trash boats regatta organized at the Funkhaus Grünau.

Radio Complex - Funkhaus Nalepastraße (Oberschöneweide)

If you want to spend a couple of hours of relax and have a look of something really nice, have a look at this complex, which was the former broadcast of the DDR and now it is possibile to rent the rooms for music and art projects.

If you're lucky maybe some of the main rooms are opens, also the Great Hall where Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra was recording the radio concerts and where also in 2012 the famous Chinese piano player Lang Lang recored his last Chopin-Album.

A nice think is to spend some time at the Milchbar im Funkhaus, the food is nice and you can get in/out from the window.
In the same area don't miss the UFO- Futuro Haus, a project from the finnish architect Matti Suuronen, of which fewer than 100 were built during the late 1960s and early 1970s and it reminds a Ufo.
